Premiera IV tomu monografii – „Łódź poprzez wieki. Historia miasta. Od 1945 roku”

Place of the event: Ogrodowa 15, 91 - 065 Łódź Łódź
When: 19 July 2024 (Friday) 17:00 - 19:30

The premiere of the next, fourth volume of the monograph dedicated to Lodz, edited by Prof. Krzysztof Lesiakowski, will be held on 19 July of the current year at 5:00 p.m. at the Hall of Mirrors of the Museum of the City of Lodz (The Izrael Poznański Palace). This is an extremely important event in the calendar of every resident of Lodz.

History of Lodz after World War II

The fourth volume of the publication is devoted to the history of Lodz after World War II, when the city functioned in the reality of the Polish People's Republic, and then in the reality shaped by the changes that began in 1989. It presents political changes that intertwine with transformations in the city space, the economic situation, or more precisely, the condition of the Lodz industry, the development of broadly understood cultural and academic life as well as the conditions of everyday lives of its inhabitants.

The authors of individual chapters describe key events, including those that distinguish the city from the country, and reinterpret facts that are already known.

A special role is played by the capsules, which complement the main text with interesting details, including those of a biographical nature. There are also some interesting engravings. This is a book about Lodz, which, after a period of extensive management in the years 1945–1989, reaches back to its roots when it was the "promised land" and in this context tries to define the directions of its own development in the 21st century.
