HORYZONTY HUMANISTYKI 2024: AROMATY I MEDYCYNA ANTYKU

Dr. Sean Coughlin, an expert in the role of perfumery in the history of science, medicine, art and culture in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece will conduct a workshop on ancient perfumes.

Dr. Sean Coughlin (Czech Academy of Sciences) – a principal investigator of Alchemies of Scent, an international and interdisciplinary research team bringing together historians, Egyptologists, philologists, and organic chemists, who, on the basis of  the preserved source material (4th c. BC – 1st c. BC), reconstruct ancient parfums. Doctor Coughlin’s research interests include also history of Byzantine medicine, particularly Aetius of Amida’s Libri medicinales (6th c. AD).
